Warning Signs of Struggling Teens

Some of the warning signs that a teen or young person may be experiencing a mental health concern, (even when not diagnosed), include:

  • Sadness lasting more than two weeks, or worsening.

  • Changes in social behaviors, including self-isolating.

  • Hurting oneself, others, or becoming out of control.

  • Feeling hopeless, focusing on dying, death or suicide.

  • Outbursts, emotional upsets, moodiness, agitation.

  • Refusal to give up devices and screens.

  • Big changes in mood, behavior, personality.

  • Changes in eating habits, including weight changes.

  • Trouble sleeping or excessive sleeping.

  • Frequent headaches, body aches, or stomachaches.

  • Trouble concentrating.

  • Not responding, running off, hiding.

  • Struggling in or avoiding school.

  • Overuse of OTC medications, inc cough medicine.
